with Barry Can't Swim
Edinburgh-born, London based producer Barry Can’t Swim is one of the fastest growing names in the electronic scene. Making a name for himself for making his own unique brand of world inspired, jazz inflicted electronic music. Classically trained Joshua Mannie is a hotly tipped multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ, making heads turn and feet dance on the international club circuit. Barry Can’t Swim will be releasing his debut album on Ninja Tune later this year.
Barry’s 'More Content' EP released in Summer 2022 has seen his profile blow wide open, picking up loads of great looks across radio, streaming, press and live - with currently over 13 millions streams online. “Sonder” - the focus track from his latest EP More Content- was selected as one of Billboard’s ‘First Spin: The Week’s Best New Dance Tracks'' calling it “a new level of beauty”. Further press acclaim from DJ Mag (print), Mixmag, Clash, Dance Wax, 10 Magazine, Snack Mag, Dummy, Carte Blanche Music, Bolting Bits, and many more. Aside from that, Barry Can’t Swim has accumulated over 44 million total streams on Spotify alone, and currently has 1.3 million monthly listeners.
His knack for lush textures and blissed-out vocal samples have gained impressive accolades in his burgeoning career, making him a ‘One To Watch’ nominee by the AIM Awards, Billboard’s ‘Dance Artists To Watch in 2022’, and Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2021 nominee. Barry was tipped as The Blessed Madonna’s ‘Ones To Watch for 22’ and Annie Mac’s ‘New Names for 2021’. His release with Anish Kumar, “Blackpool Boulevard”, scored a place on the BBC Radio 1 playlist. The track made Danny Howard’s ‘Hottest Record’ and Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune’, while Mixmag included it in their ‘Best Tracks of the Year’.
“Blackpool Boulevard”, was described as “an utterly infectious modern dancefloor classic” by Pete Tong and made Arielle Free’s ‘Big Whopper’ and Nick & Jordan’s ‘Track of The Week’ -receiving over 700 plays across 13 different UK stations.
In November 2022, Barry played a rapturous DJ set for Mixmag Lab in London, which clocked up 50k views within two weeks. There were over 450 sign-up’s to attend the 80 capacity event within minutes and a queue stretching around the block to get in on the night.
Confirmed plans for 2023 already include Barry’s debut Boiler Room set in May at FLY Festival in Edinburgh, making his second appearance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Dundee, bringing his live show to festivals including Lost Village and Green Man, a US festival trip including Portola, CRSSD and Life Is Beautiful. Plus international shows at Hideout Festival in Croatia and Ibiza Music Summit and more over the summer.
