We begin our journey by acknowledging the whenuaโthe land that supports and sustains us. Walking barefoot on the sand, we connect with the earth beneath our feet, grounding ourselves in the present moment. This connection with the whenua forms the foundation for our wellbeing, reminding us of our place in the world and our relationship with the environment.

As we walk together, we emphasise the importance of whฤnauโour family and community. This is a time to share stories, listen, and connect with others. We'll gather for a group activity that encourages participants to talk and listen, fostering a sense of belonging and support.

Our physical health is nurtured through the simple act of walking. The gentle movement on the sand, the fresh air, and the rhythmic sound of the waves all contribute to a sense of physical renewal. We'll engage in conscious breathing exercises, helping to centre our bodies and minds, and to bring awareness to the present moment.

At the midpoint of our walk, we'll pause for a special activity focused on taha hinengaroโmental and emotional wellbeing. A speaker will guide us through a reflective exercise, offering insights and encouraging us to explore our thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment. This is a time for introspection, sharing, and connection with our inner selves.

As we walk back, we'll each create a symbol in the sand using driftwood or other natural materials. This symbolic act represents our spiritual wellbeing, or taha wairua. You'll have the opportunity to reflect on what your symbol means to you and to share your thoughts with others if you wish. This activity helps to deepen our connection to the spiritual aspect of our being, fostering a sense of peace and purpose.
