About this Event
In 2023, the American Library Association (ALA) documented 4,240 unique book titles targeted for censorship - a 65% increase over the previous year. Public libraries have been impacted with a 92% increase in targeted titles. Many of these books are targeted because they share LGBTQIA+ stories, are deemed sexually explicit, or address racism through the characters' experience. Some of these instances have occured in Wake and surrounding counties. Eight NC State students create a performance drawn from Banned and Challenged Books that personally impact them.
Join us for a staged reading of literature that NC State Libraries and University Theatre believe should remain free to read.
Students will read excepts from select books in an evening of live staged readings.
