This is Banda Sin Nombre’s one & only performance inside a San Francisco venue for 2021!!

Banda Sin Nombre is a five-piece band from San Francisco's Mission District dedicated to performing folk music from around the world. Mixing rich vocal harmonies with acoustic instruments including guitar, fiddle, charango, cajon, and bass, the band's inspirations range from Peruvian Chicha to Catalan Rumba and Appalachian old time to cumbia. The band merges drag and folk through collaboration with local performance artist Shane Zaldiva and other members of our queer community.

Banda Sin Nombre has performed at Stern Grove Festival, Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, the New Parish in Oakland, MACLA in San Jose, and dozens of venues in San Francisco including The Chapel, the Boom Boom Room, Amnesia, Cafe Revolution, Elbo Room, Brava Theater, Mission Cultural Center, Red Poppy Art House, and a monthly residency at Club Deluxe. The band has also performed at wineries and private events across California, and has toured internationally.

While the band is planning a baby hiatus beginning in August 2021, we plan to resume performances and tours both local and international starting in spring 2022. Stay tuned, and thank you for all your love and support.

Maria Jose “Majo” Montijo is a Boricua Bruja, casting spells with a luminous voice and powerful lyrics that celebrate the magic of the ordinary. Majo crafts songs as a practice of decolonization - blending Puerto Rican Bomba rhythms, folk harp, electronics and other acoustic instruments. She touches themes that are feminist, political, and anchored in reciprocity with the Earth - songs that are prayers to both our ancestors and our future selves.
