Band Together For Christopher Ben David
Chris is a 15-year-old who is going through what no child should. He has a rare childhood cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. His tumor was localized to his toe but unfortunately to ensure it didn’t spread he need to have it amputated. Before it could be amputated, he needed to have chemo to shrink his tumor. He has had a port-a-cath put in his chest and bi-weekly chemo for 14 weeks. After his surgery he has not been able to bare weight on his foot leaving him bound to a knee scooter. Due to this he will be starting physical therapy which will carry over into next year when his medical deductible will reset and will be costly for his family. Chris has had struggles with infection, causing multiple inpatient stays at Boston Childrens Hospital. Maintaining his weight, to which he has to take appetite stimulants to avoid getting a feeding tube placed from his nose to his stomach. His chemo treatment have been delayed numerous time because his blood counts are to low and he needs transfusions to bring up his blood and or platelets. He has decreased organ productivity which is a result of the stringent chemo he receives, causing him to require monthly echo cardiograms. He will need many follow-up appointments in the coming year to check for residual effects from his chemo and to determine if it is long term damage or something that could be corrected as his body recovers. While Chris has been a trooper throughout his very long treatment he has suffer in many ways. He has lost his freshmen year at school and instead of making friends and exploring shops he spend most of his time at the nurses office as his fatigue prevents him from getting the full high school experience. He has a home tutor due to the many days lost for treatment, appointments, and not feeling well. Chris appreciates all the support he has received. Help him finish out his road to recovery by coming to his fundraiser and just enjoying good time.
