Keith Grzelak, owner of Build Wood Bows, LLC will be the instructor for our next Bamboo Backed Long Bow Building Class at Woodcraft of Columbus. Keith Grzelak has been making bows for a decade and learned most of what he knows from Master Bowyer Tom Turgeon. After a almost a decade of learning from and purchasing materials from Tom Turgeon, Keith decided to follow his passion! In this two day class, Keith will instruct you how to take a glued up Bamboo/Yellowheart stave and turn it into a functional bow you will be proud of to take target shooting or hunting! Using a rasp you will learn how to adjust the limbs to account for the difference in the strength of the wood and either build a stiffer bow with more of a hunting weight type of action or for someone like your grandson or granddaughter that need a lighter weight bow. Either way, you will understand how to build a bow on your own in the future. At the end of the first day, you will learn how to string the bow and you will actually shoot the bow at the beginning of the next day! The second day is the day you dye the bow with trans-tints and apply your first top coat of finish before you leave. Applying the dye has been fun over the years watching everyone do their thing from attempting to camouflage the bow using q-tips, cotton balls, and other types of applications to yes, even a pink bow with polka dots! This class isn't just for guys and it isn't just for woodworkers, either!
