About this Event

Baltimore, MD – On Thursday, Aug. 31, from 12 – 5 p.m. ET, Mayor Brandon Scott will join the Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) as it hosts its 4th annual International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD). Last year, more than 100,000 Americans lost their lives to drug overdoses. To bring attention to the opioid epidemic, BCHD has assembled two panel discussions. The first will feature families who’ve lost a loved one to overdose. The second panel will highlight the impact of the opioid epidemic and Baltimore City’s efforts to decrease opioid-related overdose deaths from experts in the field.

This event is in partnership with Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott; Interim Health Commissioner, Mary Beth Haller; Director, Overdose Prevention, Brittney Spencer; and 10 organizations throughout the city including, Behavioral Health System Baltimore (BHSB), HealthCare Access Maryland (HCAM) and Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE.)

Additionally, free-standing Naloxone training workshops will be provided throughout the month of August for Baltimore City residents. Finally, to raise awareness of IOAD, buildings including City Hall and Johns Hopkins Bayview will be lit up with purple uplighting.
