About this Event
Himalayan balsam is fast growing quickly reaching up to 2 metres. Growing close together they crowd out all other wildflowers becoming the only plant in dense patches. This invasive plant spreads rapidly with each plant able to produce around 800 seeds fired out by exploding seed pods. It dies back completely in winter leaving the burn and river bank soils bare and prone to erosion. The good news is it is easy to remove with only hand power. The roots are very shallow making it easy to pull up before it has set seed. Join us for an afternoon of balsam pulling at Mineralwell Park Stonehaven. Gloves will be provided. Some areas where we will be working are very muddy where wellie boots are advisable but it isn't compulsory to go into these areas!
