With a fresh perspective toward both beloved classics and modern compositions, the Balourdet Quartet's willingness to take creative risks earned it the 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant as well as Chamber Music America's 2024 Cleveland Quartet Award. Violinists Jusin DeFilippis and Angela Bae, and cellist Russell Houston first bonded as friends at the Taos School of Music and were joined by violist Benjamin Zannoni at Rice University where the quartet was formed. The Balourdet offers a program titled "Learning to Fly" for its Krannert Center debut. From the opening rustlings of Schubert's Quartettsatz and Ravel's classic String Quartet in F Major, to the soaring rhythms of Alberga's electrifying Quartet No. 2 and Nicky Sohn's Galaxy Back to You, the string quartet becomes a high-flying and uplifting vehicle. Amy Beach's String Quartet in One Movement, a profound glimpse of the American perspective, completes the program. Please note that the following items are not allowed in the concert hall: backpacks, large bags, strollers, instrument cases, food, beverages other than bottled water, tripods, signs, balloons, skateboards, bicycles, scooters, and any other items deemed to be dangerous or to pose an obstruction.
