Every Scout deserves a trained leader. BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) is Scouting America’s required training for Cub Scout leaders to conduct pack or den overnight camping.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a training event that introduces Cub Scout leaders to the skills necessary to plan and conduct outdoor activities for their Cub Scout Pack. The training includes event planning, health & safety guidelines, necessary equipment, outdoor cooking & sanitation, and an introduction to camping skills.
Who should take BALOO?
Scouting America requires that you have at least one BALOO-trained adult on every Cub Scout den or pack overnight outdoor event. That includes pack camping as well as Webelos and AOL den overnighters.
A BALOO-trained leader should be at any overnighter regardless of whether it is a pack, district or council event.
Having at least one BALOO-trained adult will make your Cub Scouts’ camping experience as awesome as it can be.
Why should I take BALOO?
Leaders who complete BALOO training are better prepared to plan pack den or pack overnight events.
