Welcome to the Secret Sonic Cinematheque!The Secret Sonic Cinematheque, founded in 2016 is, as the name suggests, an experimental musical cinema event. Experience the magic and hilarity of live scores to old silent film.
We present short films and excerpts from films with live scores that are composed, part-composed or totally improvised by our core musician-composers with guests. We work wherever possible with a local musician / composer to create a unique ensemble for the particular event. Each composer chooses a film and comes up with a soundtrack idea to be realised by the group.
There are also surprise films that that are chosen with the help of the audience to which the group has to respond, sight-unseen. We also like to source interesting local films of any description, be they archival or experimental, which also helps to make the show as site-specific as possible.
The instrumentation is always an eccentric, eclectic collection of electronics, instruments and household objects that create an ever-changing palette of sonic wonder. Prepare to be transported back in time as film reels from the past are reimagined and brought to life through live soundtracks.
This live event promises a diverse range of video material, from captivating tales to intriguing actualities, ensuring an unforgettable evening for all attendees.
