We are so lucky to have the amazing clay sculpture artist Gin Durham back to demonstrate how to make one of her characteristic badger sculptures. The class is a wonderful chance to unite with other potters making the same animal together whilst all looking quite unique when they are all completed.
Some experience using clay is good, but not essential. Gin is great at showing you how to make each part of her sculptures in a step-by-step manor.
Gins sculptures sell for hundreds of pounds so this is an amazing opportunity to create one in her style, taught by herself!
The inspiration for Gin’s unique animal sculptures stems from a life long love of animals and how they are represented within culture.
Gin draws on an imagination which has been shaped by treasured tales and imagery which she has translated into beautifully detailed porcelain and stoneware sculptures.
Clay is such a wonderfully expressive material and lends itself to exploring emotional connections with storytelling and expressing the behaviours of the animal subject
Her material choice of clay as a medium is an extension of her drawing, painting and illustration practice; one informs the other. The clay is drawn and shaped to represent fluid forms based on anatomically correct studies, though rich creativity enhances and exaggerates detail in the work.
The class includes materials and equipment is provided. You sculpture will be fired to bisque. If you’d like to return and glaze your piece there are a number of payable options available to you. Please ask our team for ore information.
