Scarlett LaFlamme’s Bad Girls of History: A Burlesque Tribute last seen at the ROM in 2017 is back!

Women have had disproportionate rules and limits placed on our behaviour and the way we live our lives in patriarchal societies for too big a chunk of history. If we step out of line and dare to rebel against these social codes we are told that we’ve caused and deserve any consequences imposed on us. But to dare to step out of line and rebel has historically been the only way for women to claim agency and the chance to live extraordinary lives – ones that echo through centuries inspire generations and sometimes change the course of history. This is not a show about good girls but it’s also not a show about true villains. You’re not going to see any swastikas here. This is a show celebrating messy complicated brave rebellious women who made an impact by refusing to be meek and subservient. And what better way to celebrate them but through the only art form that truly applauds women behaving the opposite way to how we’re supposed to in public: burlesque!
