RUBY CREEK // MANELLA // ERIN MARCELLINA
Our second Backyard Session will be Folk Night featuring three fantastic local musicians from the MTL scene. Come listen to some heartwarming tunes as the sun comes down. BYOB, snacks will be provided!
Ruby Creek: Ruby Creek is an indie-folk band based out of Montreal (Tiohtià:ke). The trio, comprised of Ben Paquette, Nova Nastasia, and Riley Wilson, explore their folk roots through emotional yet tender melodies that nod to a wide variety of genres. Heavily inspired by artists like Big Thief, Julia Jacklin, and Sierra Ferrell, Ruby Creek has created a unique sound, blending hints of bluegrass, folk, and Celtic-like hymns into their intricate songwriting. The band has just come off of their East coast tour and is currently recording their first EP.
Erin Marcellina: Erin Marcellina is a 20 year old singer/songwriter from Ottawa who moved to Montreal to pursue music. They have been writing folk songs for 6 years with inspiration from artists such as Elliott Smith, Phoebe Bridgers and Nick Drake. Listen closely, feel deeply and remember, don’t hurt a songwriter.
Manella: MANELLA (Maria Jimenez) is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Vancouver, based in Montréal. She melds a variety of genres to create a memorable performative storytelling experience with enthralling vocals and a powerful stage presence. Her songwriting focuses on honest, heartbreaking lyrics of loss, love and strength from a feminist lens mixed with layered lush orchestrations. Manella recently graduated from McGill’s Schulich School of Music with a double major in Jazz Performance: Voice and Composition and has already received numerous accolades and recognition throughout Canada. Her debut album, “Songs My Mother Never Taught Me,” an autobiographical musical account of heartbreak, mental health, objectification, and the loss of innocence of your 20s was released in February 2023.
