In 1936 an airplane with a dead engine glided low over isolated and tiny Cape Breton community of Balaine, home to about 20 people. Three children followed the doomed plane, climbing up a hill, and spotting it crashed, nose-down, in a bog. Next to the plane, wounded and stuck in the mud, was pioneering pilot Beryl Markham.
