About this Event

EVENT DETAILS

Discover a different side of Wind Wolves Preserve on a guided hike along the stunning and remote El Camino Viejo Wilderness Trail! The hike is an out-and-back route (approximately 3 miles total) of moderate difficulty recommended for ages 10 and up. NOTE: The trail is located about 5 miles from the main parking lot.

This event is FREE, but participants must register and can choose to either ride with staff or drive a personal vehicle (high-clearance vehicles only).

Event is subject to cancellation due to unsafe weather conditions.

Please plan to arrive at the Crossing parking lot by 9:15am for check-in. Only registered participants will be admitted (NO WALK-UPS). From there, we will drive about 5 miles (past a locked gate) on the canyon road to the El Camino Viejo Wilderness trailhead. Program duration includes travel time to and from trailhead.

Space is limited! Reservations are required and open on Saturday, November 29th at 8:00 a.m. You can register up to 3 people (if riding w/ staff). Call Wind Wolves Preserve at (661) 858-1115 or email [email protected] for questions or more information.

  • water & snacks
  • sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.)


SAFETY

• Remember to bring enough water and snacks for each person and pet in your group (it is recommended you bring 1 liter for every 2 hours of hiking/ person).

• Water bottle refill stations are located at The Crossing and The Willows restroom (depending on your program, you may encounter 1 or both of these restrooms).

• Access to shade will be available (depending on trail/ program) and short breaks will be provided.

• Recognize the symptoms of cold stress in yourself and others.

This event is free, but please consider a donation to support The Wildlands Conservancy's mission! Donations can be made. All donations go directly to The Wildlands Conservancy and help support free public access, youth education, interpretative programs, and habitat restoration projects! (If you want to directly support the education team, you can click "Outdoor Education at Wind Wolves Preserve" under the "Where it's needed most" button.)


ABOUT US

Wind Wolves Preserve is a 93,000-acre nature preserve located approximately 30 miles south of Bakersfield, and is owned and operated by The Wildlands Conservancy (TWC). The preserve is open to the public daily and visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping, or attend a staff led program, all free of charge.

TWC is a private, non-profit organization that operates more than 25 preserves along the west coast. Our mission is "To preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the earth and to provide programs so that children may know the wonder and joy of nature."
