Back to School Balance: Navigating Behavioral Challenges

This workshop is designed for parents and/or caregivers of elementary-aged children who are experiencing a surge in behavioral challenges and transitional struggles especially as the new school year begins.

Led by Dr. Megan Stilwill, a board-certified osteopathic pediatrician, alongside Ali Fitzgibbon, LMSW therapist and Carol Bell, Registered Dietitian, we'll explore how these behaviors often stem from skill or cooperation deficits rather than willful misbehavior, providing a framework for understanding and supporting children with complex needs, including those with ADHD, anxiety, and sensory processing challenges. Our goal is to empower families with practical, foundational strategies to build a more balanced and supportive home environment.

• Understanding the "Why" Behind Behavior. Learn to identify challenging behaviors as potential symptoms of underlying developmental and neurological differences. Dr. Stilwill will help you understand when a behavioral evaluation might be beneficial and how to pinpoint skill or cooperation deficits.
  
• Tools for Emotional Regulation: Gain practical, easy-to-implement tools to help support emotional regulation and feelings identification. Ali Fitzgibbon, LMSW will also address the importance of parent/school communication, understanding what behavioral supports and social/emotional curricula that are available.
  
• The Power of Routine and Structure: Discover how to create and maintain consistent routines that provide a sense of security for children with complex needs. The workshop will provide simple, actionable steps to help reduce anxiety and improve cooperation within the household.
  
• Nourishing the Nervous System: Understand the critical link between diet and behavior. Carol Bell, RD will share foundational nutritional advice to support optimal brain and nervous system functioning, providing dietary tips to help with focus, mood, and regulation.
  
• Finding Balance in a Busy Life: Learn how to balance the demands of school, therapies, and extracurriculars with essential rest and downtime. The event will promote awareness of overall family wellness and provide strategies to prevent burnout for both children and parents.
