History Matters!
Electronic Dance Music and Black History Month go hand in hand! The history of EDM is also Black History. The earliest known recordings of House and Techno music date back to the late 1970s early 80’s. The artist known as Frankie Knuckles lit a fire in the Chicago underground, spinning some of the first produced house records. House music created some of the first safe spaces for the LGBTQ community and the Black community post the Civil Rights movement. Shortly after, Detroit DJs like Juan Atkins and Ken Collier, began paving the way for Techno in the same light.
Aside from house music; genres like Drum and Bass, Jungle, Dubstep, etc. also have their deep roots in Black culture. The strong roots that all these genres share makes up what we all know and love about EDM today!

A Producer, DJ and Label Owner, Jerome Baker has been producing and DJing Techno and House for over 30 years. He has released chart topping tracks in multiple genres (Techno, House, Tech House) on labels like Farris Wheel(Chicago) WhiteBeard Records(Chicago), Naked Lunch, Mistress Recordings, Kne’Deep, UKR, Planet Underground, Relief Records as well as on his own label Equation Recordings. Jerome produces under his own name as well as aliases Asa Buchanan, The Original DJ Boris, Dorian Baker, Lord Damian, and alongside Ellery Cowles as Pitch Deck. He’s remixed artists such as Gene Farris, APaul, Lester Fitzpatrick, Orlando Voorn, Chance McDermott, Cristian Glitch, Steve Shaden, MarAxe, Jesse Saunders, Roy Davis Jr, DJ Deeon and more. As a DJ Jerome got his start in the early 90’s as DJ Boris in Chicago’s warehouse/rave underground then started playing around the US and abroad before retiring briefly in 2000. Since returning in 2005, Jerome has played all over the US with such diverse talent as Gene Farris, Green Velvet, Hyperactive, Drumcell, DJ Rush, DVS 1, Paul Johnson, Lester Fitzpatrick, SNTS, Gettoblaster and many others, at some of the biggest clubs, festivals and events around the US. He has his own Label focusing on Techno and House Music called Equation Recordings which has had over 30 releases hit the Beatport Techno (Raw Deep Hypnotic, Hard Techno) Top 100 since it's inception in early 2021.

spent the last year couple of years steady on the rise playing some of MKEs sweetest venues such as LaPiña, Bacarra, the Collaborative Farm, and has even been a featured DJ on Transcentral Radio in Milwaukee. We are excited to bring her back to Madison, for this special celebration!
