A beloved song of the Anglo-Celtic folk song tradition, “John Barleycorn” parodies the traditional murder ballad style as it traces the life cycle of barley as it grows, is harvested, and turned into beer. Guitarist and CCMS faculty Dan Faiella, in turn, will trace the cycles of rebirth of the song itself as it winds its way from a distant Celtic past, through King Arthur Legends, 17th-century pub songs, and its recent revival in the 60s and 70s.It will be held in our historic Recital Hall. It is free of charge and open to the public, thanks in part to the generosity of the Walker Fund. Donations are appreciated.
