Each new year offers an exciting opportunity for a fresh start and new beginnings. This marks the debut of the newly formed trio of three talented ladies from three distinctive backgrounds that have forged their friendship through their passion for music as well as living in the same neighborhood in Bangkok: N.A.O. Trio. Based on the initials of each of their first names, they are composed of Noa Chorin (“N”), Anna Takeda (“A”) and Omporn Kowintha (“O”). This trio have a collective experience that spans the globe from Bangkok to Berlin and beyond through performances with various chamber music groups. “Nao” also happens to be a popular female name in Japanese that means harmony. They look forward to welcoming us to live performances again with harmony through their rendition of Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach.

About the piece,
The Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, is a musical composition for keyboard by Johann Sebastian Bach, consisting of an aria and a set of 30 variations. First published in 1741, it is named after Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, who may also have been the first performer of the work. The Goldberg Variations has been reworked freely by many performers, changing either the instrumentation, the notes, or both. Annette Bartholdy’s edition for violin, viola, and cello, is based on the edition in Neue Bachaugabe and on the aforementioned first edition authorized by Bach. Bernard Haitink describes his impression of this string trio version thusly: “It’s completely true to the original, whilst using the colours of the three instruments which the keyboard cannot give”.

The Goldberg Variations, BWV
