Bach’s mastery shines in this second instalment of the great composer’s cello suites.Following a sold-out Part I performance in 2024, three of Melbourne’s leading cellists share an intimate and elegant combination of the remaining three Suites, perfect for the Primrose Potter Salon.
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra cellist Rohan de Korte opens with Suite No.2 in D minor, capturing the somber tones of Bach’s introspection. Filled with a sense of melancholy, the light and shade of Bach’s musical contrasts come to life through intricate phrasing and emotive melodies.
Audience favourite Zoe Knighton shares the vibrant energy and optimism of Suite for Cello No.3 in C. A strikingly different atmosphere from the other Suites, Bach’s No.3 is filled with lively dances and an air of celebration.
Finally, Rosanne Hunt, a regular on stages and ensembles across the country, concludes with the dramatic intensity of Suite for Cello No.5. With haunting and rich melodies, the depth of Bach’s talent is on full display throughout a performance that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
