Babes on Bikes - A Protest Parade

This event is for anyone who wants to commute safely by bike, and take action against climate change, for our kids and future generations.
About this Event

Transport is the second biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Many people would like to cycle but they feel unsafe.

It should be easy for everyone in the inner-rim suburbs of Adelaide and beyond to cycle for their commute and daily tasks like shopping, childcare and school drop off.

We want more investment in cycling infrastructure that supports women, children and families to cycle safely. We don't believe signs and paint on the road are enough to keep us safe, we need separated bike paths that provide an integrated and direct route to the places we need to go.

In addition to the parade, we have a petition you can sign .

As well as encouraging local action, we urge the federal government to commit to climate action at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November 2021. Action includes but is not limited to, investment in walking and cycling infrastructure that makes it possible to reduce reliance on cars.

This protest parade is designed to be family friendly and fun. There won't be any speeches.
 • We will meet at the southern end of Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga at 10am
 • Around 10.15am we will travel north along King William Road, and finish our parade at Pennington Gardens West just outside Adelaide Oval.
 • The parade will be on the road, accompanied by SAPOL.

We encourage you to wear tartan or other bright clothes and/or decorate your bike. We'll be led by a bagpipe leader.

We hope to see as many different types of bikes and wheeled transport on display including cargo bikes and kids on scooters. If you don't feel confident riding, you are welcome to walk alongside us.

This event is being organised by Middle Ground Motherhood, in partnership with Bike Adelaide and South Australian Parents for Climate Action.

We will be adhering to public health advice, and directions provided by SAPOL who will accompany us on the day. Please respect our volunteer marshals who will be helping to keep us safe.

There will be an event photographer in attendance. If you do not want your photograph taken, please let the photographer know.

The organisers acknowledge we will be meeting on the traditional Country of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and pay respect to Elders past and present.

We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land. We acknowledge that they are of continuing importance to the Kaurna people living today.

And we also extend that respect to other Aboriginal Language Groups and other First Nations.
