The New Beginnings Foundation (VO/2000) is offering a series of workshops to explore the Connection Between Spirituality and Mental Health. The workshops, 4 in all, are intended for counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, social workers, youth workers, spiritual directors, theologians, consecrated persons, spiritual guides, educators and volunteers working in the social field.
The Speaker - Prof Christopher Cook
Christopher Cook is an Emeritus Professor at Durham University engaged in inter-disciplinary teaching and research in the fields of spirituality, theology, and health. He trained in medicine at St George’s Hospital Medical School and later specialized in psychiatry. Cook's clinical and academic interests largely focus on addictive behaviour, especially alcohol misuse. He has held positions at University College London, the Institute of Psychiatry, and the University of Kent. Cook is also an ordained Anglican priest and integrates his Christian faith into his psychiatric approach. He was awarded the Canterbury Cross by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 2020 and the Oskar Pfister Award from the American Psychiatric Association in 2021.
The workshops will be held on:
Monday 6th October 2025 between 9 and 12 noon (8:30 am registration) - The benefits of integrating spirituality in helping clients.
Tuesday 7th October 2025 between 9 and 12 noon (8:30 am registration) - Ethical principles for integrating spirituality.
Thursday 9th October 2025 between 9 and 12 noon (8:30 am registration) - Different models for integrating spirituality in the Helping Professions.
Friday 10th October 2025 between 9 and 12 noon (8:30 am registration) - Spiritual conversations with the client, a skill-based approach.
All workshops will be held at Mount St Joseph.
Registration Fees
Early Bird Registration for ALL workshops till the 15th September 2025 - € 140
Regular Registration Fee € 40 per workshop
Registrations will be accepted once the payment is effected.
