(Spanish Handouts also available upon request).
In this Ayurvedic Massage Training you will learn how to perform the Ayurvedic modality, Basti, and the accompanying Ayurvedic foundations and theory to understand its purpose, appropriate adaptations and contraindications for each Ayurvedic constitution and condition, for optimal practice, benefit and safety.
Basti means containing something inside or is a container. Kati refers to the low back, Uro, the chest region, Hridaya, the heart and Janu the knees.
Basti treatments are warm oil applications with a variety of indications for circulation, musculoskeletal problems, nourishment and rejuvenation of organs, muscles, joints, bones and tendons. They are relaxing and can be a purposeful add on to any massage and body treatment.
Kati Basti is deeply nourishing to the spine and relaxing to the body and mind. It is a useful treatment of back, kidney, adrenal, excretory and urinary conditions. A well made of flour is placed around the spine and then filled with warm Ayurvedic herbalized oil, selected according to Ayurvedic constitution and condition. The procedure is effective for back pain, kidney and adrenal fatigue, and excretory and urinary conditions.
Uro Basti or Hridaya Basti is an oil bath on the heart and chest region to nourish and strengthen the heart. The procedure is effective for cardiac health, improves circulation and respiration, relieves deep seated stress, anger and grief and provides a sense of peace and happiness.
Janu Basti is the same procedure done on the knees. The herbal oil used in the procedure lubricates and maintains integrity of the structures involved in the joint. The reduction of pain and stiffness helps to improve mobility, and is used in conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, that involve chronic pain of the knee joints.
Students will make and deliver a variety of basti therapeutic oil applications for the back, knees, chest area and heart, including foundations of Ayurveda for proper assessment, adaptations and contraindications. Information about oils and products is included.
6 contact hours of hands on training in the Ayurvedic Massage; Basti Therapeutic Oil Applications including applied Ayurvedic theory that supports safe, therapeutic and optimal practice and self care.
