The Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies and the Department of Music in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design are proud to present vocalist Ayelet Rose Gottlieb and her quartet Dream Keepers in concert presenting music from their newly released album Dust.
“Everything is blended with fluidity, articulation, and grace,” wrote DownBeat Magazine about Dream Keepers’ 2025 release Dust. Formed in 2021 by Montreal-based, Jerusalem-born vocalist Ayelet Rose Gottlieb, the quartet features Stéphane Diamantakiou (contrabass), Bernard Falaise (guitar & electronics), and Hamin Honari (Persian hand percussion). Supported by a Canada Council for the Arts Research Grant, the ensemble has crafted a distinctive sound that fuses Jewish music with Persian rhythms, rock and jazz.
Each member contributes compositions to Dust, a collection of songs set to poetry in seven languages —Ayelet's ancestral languages French, Ladino, Arabic, Hebrew and Yiddish, as well as Hamin's Farsi, and English. As Salt Peanuts’ Eyal Hareuveni described, the album is “a compassionate and poetic attempt to respond to these challenging, unfathomable times… a touching medicine for our dark days. Gottlieb and her Dream Keepers caress our tired souls and remind us that better times are within reach.”
“Sound and Sense: Jewish Music @ York” is a performance and lecture series dedicated to showcasing the multicultural diversity of Jewish musical expression as well as the ongoing intersections between Jewish and non-Jewish musical practices and communities. The initiative is driven by an inclusive philosophy that believes in the power of music to serve as a bridge-builder and a vehicle for cultural exchange and dialogue.
The series has been made possible via the generous support of the Azrieli Foundation.
