A 5 day trip taking in the length of Loch Awe before (possibly) descending the River Awe and onto Loch Etive. A trip in the Grandeur of the Etive hills and an appropriately timed passage of the famed Falls of Lora before a more costal feel to finish in Oban. A distance of approximately 60km in 5 days taking in one of Scotland's longest Lochs, an easy(ish) white water river (which can be missed out if desired), a sea loch and a spectacular Costal section. Wild camping along the way, carrying all our equipment on our boards or any other suitable craft folk choose to paddle.
Basic equipment needed for the trip would be:
Board with both touring and river fins, paddle and leash
Dry bags for equipment
Larger dry bags for the above (a couple of 40lt bags should be sufficient)
Clothing for paddling - including PFD and helmet for the river if you have one - if not I can lend folk one.
Clothes for off the water
Footwear for off the water
Tent - could be shared if with a buddy
Sleeping bag
Sleeping pad
Stove and cooking and eating utensils - again could be shared if with a buddy
Toiletries
Insect spray
Sun cream
There are 4 options for participants:
1. You bring all your own equipment - £350 for the 5 days.
2. You hire a touring board from me but have the rest of your camping equipment - £400
3. You hire a touring board and dry bags from me but bring your own camping equipment. - £425
4. You hire everything from me except the clothes you will be wearing both on and off the water and also bring your own sleeping bag - £500
Is it for me?
You are confident paddling your board over distance, and have undertaken journeys of approximately 10km in length. Camping experience is not essential although some experience is beneficial in order to get the most from the trip. Previous river experience on moving water is not necessary as this can be portaged easily if desired.
Participants are responsible for travel to Loch Awe as well as any accommodation before or after the trip. We may also need to use participants vehicles for the shuttle logistics at the beginning and end of the expedition.
