?YAWANAWÁs are known as the "People from the wild boar". Since time immemorial, the Yawanawá people have lived in harmony with nature, on the banks of the Gregório River in the Amazon region. This region has the greatest biodiversity on the planet. In this rich habitat their ancestors developed a vast knowledge of the healing plants of the forest, and a worldview of great spiritual wisdom. Contact with the western man took place a little over a hundred years ago. It was an intense period of much conflict with rubber barons and foreign protestant missionaries, who invaded their lands and tried to outlaw their culture and spirituality.
In the 1980s, the Yawanawá people fought for the recognition of their native territories, making them the first indigenous people to obtain official rights to their lands in the Brazilian state of Acre. Since then, the Yawanawá have been rescuing their sacred medicines, rituals, songs and dances, festivals, traditional games, body painting, art and crafts in a profound journey of cultural rebirth.
?Important representants of the YAWANAWÁS are coming to Vinterviken.
