This is a free event; however, registration is required.Maximum 12 participants. This event is a discussion on the identification of avalanche terrain and snow-related hazards when recreating during the winter. It is ideal for snowshoers, cross-country skiers, winter hikers and folks who are not necessarily interested in adventuring in avalanche terrain, but wish to identify appropriate areas to recreate based on their skill set. You’ll learn how to identify avalanche terrain, weather conditions that make avalanches more likely, basic companion rescue, and how to read and understand an avalanche forecast. This event is not formal avalanche training. We will be winter hiking (or snowshoeing, depending on conditions) with the potential for moderate elevation gain.
