At this FREE homeowner help event, learn about:
- ways to avoid having your property tax or water lien sold to an investor
- strategies to reduce your property taxes and address arrears
- options to avoid foreclosure
If your property is on the lien sale list:
If you've received a notice from NYC Department of Finance that your property is on the lien sale list, bring the following to the event:
- ID (used to crosscheck that you are the owner)
If you need help applying for Property Tax Exemptions:
Meet with representative from the Dept. of Finance at the event and bring these documents for ALL owners:
- Government-issued photo ID
- 2023 Income documents (i.e. tax returns, SSA, SSDI, pension & annuity statements, W2, etc.)
- SSA Disability Noticed of Award Letter or other proof of disability
- Trust or Life Estate documents (if applicable)
- Death Certificate (if applicable)
- All owners must be present to sign the application and submit it at the event
If you are late paying your mortgage (or are afraid you soon will be):
Meet with a HUD-certified foreclosure intervention counselor from NHS Brooklyn. Bring:
- ID
- recent mortgage statement
- proof of income
- any legal document that has been served on you (ex. Summons & Complaint)
