About this Event

Join us for a hike up to Boneyard Ridge Habitat Reserve to welcome the changing of the seasons!

NCLC Executive Director Katie Voelke will lead this outing, which starts at our Circle Creek Conservation Center, at the base of Tillamook Head. We will hike through a conserved area, observing a forest that now, because of our stewardship efforts, is on a healthy trajectory toward maturing into a high-functioning rainforest. The hike concludes at a clearing atop Tillamook Head, where you’ll get to witness breathtaking views of the coastline (weather permitting!).

This program is free, but registration is required. For more information, contact us at [email protected] or 503-738-9126.

Outing Details

This is a hike with approximately 375 feet of elevation gain on an old logging roadbed; it will be about 1.75 miles.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the day’s weather (layers and hats). Plus, bring plenty of water and snacks/lunch, and wear appropriate footwear, such as sturdy waterproof hiking shoes/boots (sandals or flip-flops not recommended) and sun protection (sunglasses and sunblock). Binoculars are recommended. Pets are not allowed to attend these outings. Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of the start time to check in so that we can begin the program promptly.

We look forward to seeing you and being Together in Nature!

About the Hiking Guide

KATIE VOELKE was raised in a home under oak trees where she spent many hours collecting bugs, making mud pies with her sister, and camping and hiking with her parents in the summers. She is sure that this lifelong exposure to the natural world is what led her on a path to study biology in school. Katie settled on Oregon’s North Coast with her husband Scott in 2003 and spent time doing field work with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife before she finally found her calling: working in land conservation with NCLC. In 2005, Katie started as NCLC’s first Stewardship Director, working under founding Executive Director Neal Maine. After three years of learning the ropes alongside Neal, she took the helm in 2008 as Executive Director. Although her job at NCLC keeps her inside more than she would like, she manages to get her fix of the outdoors by following in her parents’ footsteps: bug collecting with her three sons and spending the summers hiking and camping with family.
