Autumn is here and itβs time to plant trees and shrubs! The City of Port Townsend is holding its annual Autumnal Arbor Day celebration and plant adoption event on Saturday, October 4 at Mountain View Commons. Plant adoption starts at 11:00am until 1:00pm (or until plants are gone) with plants donated by Rainshadow Bird Alliance members, followed by a special tour of 50 trees in Uptown starting at the public library at 2:00pm. The tour is led by Fred Weinmann and Sara Fairbank, members of the Washington Native Plant Society, who will share a map and two walking loops to follow to experience these incredible trees. The public library will have kids activities, and Washington State DNR Urban & Community Forestry Program will share resources, information, coloring books, and stickers at tables at the event. The brand new Quimper Parks & Trees Foundation will also have a table at Mountain View to share information about the foundation and their efforts thus far for our community. The Foundation is currently locating sites to install several benches constructed from local wood in our city and county parks and along our trails.
Come adopt a plant, learn why fall is the best time to plant native trees and shrubs in our area, and explore our amazing urban canopy. Learn more about urban forestry here: https://cityofpt.us/planning-community-development/page/urban-forestry-trees-row
