About this Event
Forest Bathing and Fungal Foray
Come join us for a relaxing and educational day at Sharp Hill Wood! Our Forest Bathing session will help you connect with nature and reduce stress. Afterward, we'll embark on a Fungal Foray to learn about the fascinating world of mushrooms. This in-person event is the perfect opportunity to unwind, learn, and explore the beauty of the forest. Don't miss out!
This session will be led by sisters Poppy and Joni. Poppy is a trained Forest Therapy and mindfulness guide and Forest School leader, and self-professed forest enthuiast. She runs regular nature wellbeing sessions in Nottingham throughout the year. She will be joined for a special one-off event by her sister, Joni, a University of Cambridge graduate, PhD student and award-winning science communicator, specialising in mycology and all things mushrooms. You can read more about Joni below:
Joni is a fungal enthusiast currently studying for a PhD in mycology at the University of Bath. In her undergraduate she co established the University of Cambridge mycology society where she gained experience organising forays, and continues to lead forays in her local community and in the University. She is also a science communicator and loves sharing her passion for fungi; this year she has spoken across europe at the international mycology congress, in Oslo about fungi in buildings, and at the Cheltenham science festival where she won FameLab UK and at the All Things Fungi Festival in Sussex. Joni will lead a fungal foray around Sharp Hill to introduce you to some of the mushrooms you might find in these woods- note this is not foraging for consumption but rather to teach about fungal identification and ecology and have a chance to explore the woodlands!
