Join Bear Number 9 at West Stow Country Park for an opportunity to birth your own unique Saxon-style drum.History suggests these are the first instruments to be created by humans, and certainly since the last ice age. Each drum has a distinctive voice, unique to every drum, and can last a lifetime if cared properly cared for.
Claire and Benny will guide you through the process, as you will be working with local and ethically sourced deer skin and Oak, to make these iconic drums using natural and traditional methods.
"My drum is a regular companion after dark, I sit on the floor with the lights off and she helps me just empty my head – I normally find it difficult to stop thinking and find drumming very restorative, playing easily for a half an hour with no concept of the passing of time. It is as if you have given me a way into another world"
More details of the process can be found at Bear Number 9
