Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 4 in G major, Op. 47Alban Berg: Sieben Frühe Lieder (Seven Early Songs)
We are delighted to welcome Alison Langer to sing for both works in this concert. Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in G major is a delightful journey through innocence and wonder. The fourth movement, ‘Sehr behaglich’, features a soprano soloist who embodies childlike bliss. The music dances between celestial realms and earthly joys, capturing the essence of a child’s view of heaven. Alban Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder (Seven Early Songs) are exquisite miniatures. Written during his early years, these songs reveal Berg’s lyrical sensitivity and affinity for expressionism. From the dreamy ‘Nacht’ to the evocative ‘Liebesode’, each song paints vivid emotions and landscapes. In this captivating pairing, Mahler’s heavenly symphony and Berg’s intimate lieder create a harmonious dialogue between innocence and introspection.
