About this Event
Join us for an Autumnal Community Celebration - a seasonal opportunity to explore and enjoy The Green Farmacy Garden!
We invite you to spend your Sunday afternoon at the Garden with friends new and old. This event is for both our neighbors and our community of volunteers, supporters, friends & their families. The medicinal herb garden will be open for exploration as well as the woodland trails & areas around the grounds, with a guided tour of the garden & land at 2pm. We will have tables set up for potluck near the big outdoor chimney with a fire and supplies to make s'mores. We would love to hear your tales of the garden throughout the years as well as of the Dukes themselves. Following in the tradition of Jim Duke, feel free to bring along your best singing voice and instrument if so inclined!
Agenda:
1pm - 2 pm: Neighbor focused meet & greet, though all are welcome!
2 pm: Guided garden & grounds tour, beginning with a brief history of the Dukes & the Green Farmacy Garden. We'll walk through the medicinal herb garden, visit the conservation landscapes planted in the woodland and field, and discuss stormwater management practices implemented around the land.
3 pm - 6 pm: unstructured time to explore, eat, mingle & music jam at will :)
Potluck:
The Green Farmacy Garden stewards will provide herbal tisane & water infused with herbs from the garden, soups, hot cider, and ingredients for making s'mores. Potluck contributions are welcomed and encouraged. Please bring an ingredients list and a serving utensil for your dish.
Low Waste Effort:
We will provide reusable dinnerware to be collected and washed after the event. Participants are welcomed and encouraged to bring their own reusable dishes and utensils.
Children:
We love them and we'd love for you to bring them! This is a family friendly event and all ages are welcome. Please register each attendee aged 2 and up!
This event will happen rain or shine so let's hope for good weather! We will update registrants by email, and the event description, if weather seems likely to impact the event in the days before our date.
USDA botanist James A. Duke, PhD, and his wife, Peggy collected medicinal plants from all over the world for over sixty years. In 1997, they transformed part of their pasture land into a teaching garden highlighting some of the plants that are featured in Jim’s book, "The Green Ph*rm*cy." Located in Fulton, Maryland, The Green Farmacy Garden is a sanctuary for approximately 300 species of plants that have been traditionally used for medicinal purposes.
The Green Farmacy Garden is also a part of the United Plant Savers network of sanctuaries around the country, which strive to educate the public and maintain native plant species that have become at risk or endangered.
