Avast! Pirate Stories from Transgender Authors is the latest book edited by Michael Earp and Alison Evans.
Visit the Shepparton Library to meet Michael Earp as they share their writing and editing experiences.
Get ready to set sail with a crew of rebels and misfits in this thrilling anthology of pirate tales. From CD burners to space pirates with an otherworldly crew, these stories blur the lines between criminal and separatist, playful and heartfelt and showcase a range of unique characters and found families. 🏴‍☠️
Featuring seven long-form pieces of writing, including a graphic novella and a verse novella, this collection has been edited by and features trans and non-binary writers, ensuring a fresh and diverse perspective on the pirate genre. So come aboard and discover a world of queer pirates, grey morals and homebrewed ale.

“Michael Earp is a non-binary writer and bookseller living in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia), the editor of Everything Under the Moon: Fairy tales in a queerer light, Kindred: 12 Queer #LoveOzYA Stories, Out-Side: Queer Words and Art from Regional Victoria and co-edited Avast! Pirate Stories From Transgender Authors with Alison Evans. They have a teaching degree and a Masters in children’s literature and have worked between bookselling and publishing for over twenty years as a children’s literature specialist. Their role managing The Little Bookroom saw them named ABA Bookseller of the year. Their writing has also appeared in Archer, The Age, PopMatters, The Victorian Writer, Aurealis as well as the anthologies Borderlands: Riding the Slipstream and Underdog: #LoveOzYA Short Stories.”

- This is an event for young people and adults.
- Parent supervision is recommended for young people aged 12-15.
- The Shepparton Library is an accessible venue for people of all abilities.
- There is car parking in front on the library and in the surrounding streets.
- Public Transportation does not drop off directly near this venue, the bus stop for routes 1 and 2 are on Wyndham Street, within a 5-minute walk to the venue.
- The library will NOT be open to the general public at this time.
- There will be an OUT in the OPEN festival volunteer present at this event, please make them feel welcome.
