About the book:
May and her husband Chris, followed their dream, taking off in their ‘Golden Goose’ motorhome with their dog Watson and lapped Australia covering 33,280 km in 326 days.
They soon found the reality was different from what they had imagined. Don’t believe all you see in the perfectly set-up drone photos of expert travellers! It is not all sunsets on the beach and lazy days by a billabong.
Come along for the ride! Laugh and cry as May shares their "mystery bus tour" where spontaneity was the key. Making the dream come true takes work, but it is worth it.
Laughter is essential to survive and thoroughly enjoy any lap around our ‘Great Southern Land.’ You will discover how to plan your lap; Australia’s historical sights, extensive "bush art" and stunning natural features; shocking elements of Australia’s past, and how to cope with everyday challenges.
About the author:
May is a passionate traveller. She has journeyed to all continents, including Antarctica. But she has never followed a linear trajectory with anything in her life. Her professional path has had may twists and turns. She has worked on Canadian Coast Guard ships, Australian river cruise ships and as a Veterinary Nurse. She also qualified as an Occupational Therapist specialising in mental health. May has a very curious mind and eclectic interests. She may also suffer from a low threshold for boredom.
Only one thing has been constant: her love of words. Writing poetry and reading have been May’s core pastimes since her teenage years. A Lap of Australia for Beginners is her first venture in travel writing, brought about through a fascinating journey around mainland Australia in 2022/2023.
