About the Book: American Teenager
For their groundbreaking new book, Nico Lang spent a year traveling across the United States documenting the lives of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-fluid teens and their families. Drawing on hundreds of hours of interviews, American Teenager offers a vivid and deeply human portrait of what it’s actually like to grow up trans today.
From the conservative panhandle of Florida to vibrant queer communities in California, and from Texas churches to mosques in Illinois, Lang introduces readers to Wyatt, Rhydian, Mykah, Clint, Ruby, Augie, Jack, and Kylie—eight teenagers navigating identity, family, and belonging while simply trying to build a brighter future.
At the event, Nico will discuss:
• The inspiration and reporting behind American Teenager
• Stories from their year traveling across the country
• The realities facing transgender youth today
• The power of storytelling and journalism
