About this Event

When Lia lays an egg she doesn’t know what to do. At her age, it’s impossible to escape the baby question, and all her friends seem to be having children. Lia finds herself torn, unsure whether she’s ready to give up on her songwriting dreams; but time is running out, and she must make one of the biggest decisions of her life.

Beautifully written and brilliantly original, Fledging is a riveting tale that asks what it is to lead a meaningful life, and sounds a resounding call for women to make their own choices, whether that means embracing motherhood or living child-free.

Rose Diell was born and raised in the UK but her parents both grew up in the USA and she's been a frequent visitor to family and friends in New York over the years. Rose writes in her spare time, with the encouragement and support of her writing circle, the Southbank Scribblers. She now lives in London with her civil partner and Tolstoy, an extremely fluffy ginger tabby. Rose has been interviewed on numerous platforms, including Other Than Motherhood, Kids or Childfree, Life Without Children and the NoMo Bookclub. Fledging is her first novel and was initially released in the UK & Commonwealth with Renard Press in 2024.

Ilana Kaplan is a music and culture writer and editor and the author of Nora Ephron at the Movies (ABRAMS). She has worked for publications including PEOPLE, Alternative Press, The Independent and PAPER. Her work has been published in the New York Times, New York magazine, the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, GQ, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Pitchfork, Variety, and Billboard. Her piece, The Purgarory of Being a Fencesitter, was published in Elle magazine in February 2025.
