We are excited to welcome Gina Tron to Bear Pond Books!Join us on December 14th from 11am - 1pm for a signing event celebrating her new book, "Suspect".
About the Book:
Suspect is more than just a personal recollection— It is an examination of how people perceive mass shootings and the contagion effect. It is focused on when the author was suspected of wanting to shoot up her Vermont high school in the immediate aftermath of Columbine. She was not wholly innocent in the sense that she was an accomplice to a death threat. But mostly, the homicidal rumors about her spun from being creative. She was the only one dressing goth, and she had written a weird, rhyming story about sixth graders dying at a dance by a disco ball and other non-firearm weapons. Seamlessly blending memoir with investigative journalism, Suspect is a story of survival and social justice in black eyeliner.
The book is an elaboration of a short reflection she wrote for VICE in 2013. It went viral and was named a "best of 2013"; for Vice. It was number one on Longread’s Misunderstood List, and she went on to write about the same topic for Politico and Daily Beast. The manuscript for this book won the Tarpaulin Sky Book Award in 2020.
About the Author:
Gina Tron is the author of several books, including Suspect, which will be published with Whiskey Tit in the fall. Her 2020 debut poetry collection, Star 67, contains a poem nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She wrote true crime for Oxygen for six years and wrote reported pieces for various outlets, including The Washington Post, VICE, Politico, and The Daily Beast.
