📍 Location: Kona Stories Bookstore, Keauhou Shopping Center (Courtyard Stage)
Join us for an inspiring afternoon with author and illustrator Caren Loebel-Fried, as she shares the story behind her beautifully illustrated book Finding Home, a Hawaiian Petrel’s Journey. 🐦📚
In this captivating book, 11-year-old Makani Kealoha Morton grows up marveling at the magical Hawaiian petrels (‘ua‘u) and their evening sky-dances. But when the birds face extinction due to human-caused environmental changes, Makani’s biologist mom and her team work on a plan to save them. The story unfolds as Makani’s favorite seabird chick struggles to fledge, and Makani finds her own way to help make a difference.
Based on true events, Finding Home highlights the bond between humans and nature, touching on important themes like wildlife conservation, Hawaiian culture, and environmental stewardship. The book includes stunning block prints, drawings, and maps, making it a wonderful read for all ages.
