Gary is a long-standing Warrandyte community member whose passion for painting started in High School under the fortunate tutorage of an inspiring Art teacher. Gary’s work has been recognised nationally with various awards and his works are often sought by Galleries for exhibitions, as well as now being a teacher of Art. Gary has been painting all his life and still paints foremost for personal pleasure and relaxation.Gary continues to be inspired by a love of the Australian Bush. Being passionate about Bush preservation, Gary is one of a few artists, other than indigenous artists, in Victoria using Natural Ochre in his work. The use of Natural Ochre makes Gary’s art unique, which can be seen in the very real and vibrant colours of the outback.
Gary’s love of the Australian outback, where he paints in-situ, has lead to him spending many winters in remote camps, away from Alice Springs. This love is also brought into the studio where he uses photos and drawings as inspiration and depicts the reds, yellows, greens and browns of the beautiful, dry outback land.
In this workshop you will learn more about Gary's unique journey, the Natural Ochres and you will make your own pigment to include in your artwork.
