Whether you're a local or just visiting, this is the perfect chance to sample delicious cuisine, meet new people, and tackle the issue of single-use plastics. We'll be hitting up a variety of spots around the area so there's something for everyone.

What is Restaurant Blitz Austin?
Restaurant Blitz is a consumer-led foodware audit for restaurants in Austin, Texas. Restaurant Blitz Austin is conducted using the app PlasticScore to assess the use of single-use plastics during dining or take out experience. After the launch of the first Restaurant Blitz Austin in November 2022, we were able to identify which single-use plastic items are most prominent in Austin as well as identify champions in the food industry totalling over 500 reviews . For this second Restaurant Blitz, our goal is to develop a comprehensive representation of restaurants throughout the city of Austin by gathering over 5,000 reviews by the end of the year.
Background:
In 2021, we organized a TrashBlitz to better understand what types of plastic pollution were escaping the waste stream in Austin. We learned that single-use plastic foodware was one of the top items polluting our community. To better understand what types of single-use foodware items and materials are used, Austin Reuse Coalition is organizing a Restaurant Blitz to conduct a city-wide audit. With a clear answer to the plastic items that are entering the waste stream in Austin from food facilities, we will be able to better guide businesses towards a reuse culture specific to Austin.
Where:
Although the Blitz can take place in any food restaurant or food truck in Austin, we will meet in-person for the kickoff on two separate days! You can join us in North Austin or South Austin.
Saturday, June 24 - Meet at the Pavilion across from the Apple Store at the Domain
Sunday, June 25 - Meet at Casa de Luz near South Lamar
We will decide as a group on some nearby restaurants to walk towards and dine in.
When:
Restaurant Blitz Austin will officially launch with our in-person community blitzes on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm both days! The Blitz will run until the end of year to ensure an adequate capture of the Austin restaurant scene. Additional in-person community blitzes will be scheduled later in the year.
