FORTY YEARS OF LIZARDRY
The Austin Lounge Lizards, “The Most Laughable Band in Show Business,” celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2020. For those forty years, the Lizards have been performing original humorous songs that spoof and provide a unique perspective on subjects such as politics, organized religion, romance, substance abuse, and themselves. In that time, they have never lacked for material. The Lizards’ music features pointed and clever wordplay, precise three- or four-part harmonies, and instrumental expertise. Their live shows engage their audiences and have made their fans laugh - with them - throughout the United States and in Canada and the United Kingdom.
The Lizards began in 1980 when four young men had a dream - to get free beer for playing music. They made that dream come true and have surpassed it. Five-time winners of the Austin Music Awards, the Lizards have performed on National Public Radio, Mountain Stage, E-Town, Please Stand By, and numerous other radio programs throughout Texas and the rest of the U.S. They have played celebrated music festivals, such as the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the Strawberry Festival, Grey Fox, the Edmonton and Vancouver Folk Festivals, the Kerrville Folk Festival
