About this Event
While Labour's new budget presents as heavy on public spending, in reality it maintains much of the fundamental austerity plan of the Tories.
Despite the cries of the right-wing press, rises in tax have fallen well short of a general taxation of the rich, which would be extremely popular with most people.
Instead, there are new vicious attacks on the poorest: cutting the winter fuel allowance for pensioners; the two-child benefit cap; and a hike to £3 bus fares.
All the while, Britain directs resources to the genocide in Gaza and £3 billion new funds pledged towards the hopeless war in Ukraine - "this year, next year, and every year for as long as it takes."
What does this tell us about class interests in the UK? How might we build working-class resistance to this austerity at home and imperialism abroad?
Leading off this discussion will be socialist and anti war campaigner Lewis Akers.
