Excited to announce the next Aurora Nights Dinner at Prairie Sky Breads!! This time we will be running dinner on one weekend and the arts components on another in an effort to better accommodate travel and schedules! It is a privilege to host a truly remarkable person in our region, Dr. Ruth De La Cruz, doing incredible work as a scientist working to grow her communities' food sovereignty! One of the powerhouses behind the MHA Community Garden and heirloom seed cache and a leader in "wishing big" and doing the work to make it happen!
Dr. Ruth will talk to us about her work revitalizing her tribe's food systems and she will show us some of the traditional seeds she works with and bring some examples to show the variation that represents a small region. The perfect person to chat us up as we consider spring and gardening season!
We will also be hosting Chef Juan De La Cruz! Chef Juan has been chefing for over 20 years and has cooked meals for hundreds of people in programs similar to Aurora Nights in other areas! Chef Juan delights in cooking for his entire town and is well known for his gift in the kitchen and will be cooking family-style meals for the entire weekend. Here's the menu!
First Course: wild rice fritters with ginger dipping sauce and lightly dressed greens.
Second Course: Mandan white bean and hominy soup
Main course: braised bison with berry reduction;
squash; purple and sweet potato gratin.
Dessert: maple syrup pie and Hidatsa cornball.
Beverage: Oneida strawberry drink.
Participants will end the evening by making a corn husk rose and depending on time and interest, Dr. Ruth will bring two wooden corn mortars and pestles folks can try out for milling corn.
Join us for another amazing Aurora Nights Dining event!
