Join us on March 27th for our August Haven Live with Steve March Tormé. SMT will host his afternoon show from August Haven’s Appleton location, welcoming The Tom Thiel Trio, including bassist Jeremy Rechner, and drummer Pat Wydeven. This will be Tom Thiel’s first show on August Haven Live since the virtual series in 2020.
Thiel’s songwriting blends pop-rock sensibilities with storytelling rooted in his rural upbringing, brought to life through distinctive guitar tunings and vivid imagery. Known for his time as lead guitarist with the rock band Boxkar, Thiel can also be found playing solo, in his trio, or collaborating with many other Avenue favorites such as The Kurt Gunn Band and Brad Bordini.
Highlights of his career include:
• Receiving the Wisconsin Area Music Industry’s Songwriter of the Year award for his debut solo album, "Old Shadows."
• Collaborating with slide guitar virtuoso Jay Stulo on the WAMI-winning blues/rock album "Ghosts Around Here."
• Releasing the haunting single "That Curious Moon," which became a finalist at the Stockholm Film Festival.
• Performing at iconic venues such as Chicago’s Hard Rock Cafe, Hollywood’s Viper Room, and an inaugural ball in Washington D.C.
The recent singles "The Next Best Thing" and "Breakin' My Bones" offer a preview of The Tom Thiel Trio’s upcoming blues-rock album set to release this year.
