About this Event
Join Living Collections Manager Joe Verstandig as we explore shaded trails through the dense woodlands of Ballard Park. Many interesting plants exist within the confines of the park, including several Aquidneck Island native trees, naturalized plants introduced into Newport through horticulture or by accident, and a fair share of exotic invasives as well. Joe will discuss some tree identification, the history of Newport’s horticulture, and the effect it has had on native ecosystems such as Ballard Park, and remark on many beautiful specimens we’ll see from the trail.
Registration is required and will open on July 20, 2024. This program involves walking/standing for the duration of the event. Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
