Join us Friday August 29th, 5-8pm to enjoy works by Matt Cargile. His works will be up until the 3rd week of Sept.Cryin Caleb will be in the gallery, entertaining us with his one man band. Light refreshments will be available.
Matt Cargile was born in the weird part of California in the late '70s and moved to Lewiston in the late '80s. He attended art school for a year, freaked out and stopped making art for 30 years. Why he started painting again is anyone's guess.
"When I was two or three, I asked my father if there were any actual pictures of The Boogie Man. He immediately and authoritatively said yes, then rifled through a magazine and showed me a photo of what I now know to be Funkentelechy-era George Clinton. So, I grew up not only sort of believing that The Boogie Man was more real and tangible than, say, the Easter Bunny, but there was also a not zero chance that I was going to run across P-Funk elsewhere and freak the fuck out. And sure enough, about a decade later, I found myself staring dumbfounded when The Boogie Man appeared in an Ice Cube video. It wasn't an isolated incident. My childhood was full of that sort of thing. I don't know if it really explains anything about my art, but it's a good story, no?"
