Audubon Nature Institute: Where Construction and Conservation Intersect

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

With nine (and soon to be ten) world class facilities and parks spanning all of the corners of our community, Audubon Nature Institute has unique construction needs. Not only must special care and consideration be taken to manage construction around and for animals, but that construction may have a long-term positive impact on conservation. The presentation will focus on various projects across facilities to highlight the intersection of great construction and its impact on saving wildlife and wild places.

FEATURED SPEAKER

Dr. Kyle Burks serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Audubon Nature Institute, where he leads the design, construction, operation and maintenance of all of Audubon’s facilities and delivery of the organizations missionbased programs around the globe. Dr. Burks has dedicated his career to the zoo, aquarium and conservation profession for more than 30 years. He spent the first half of his career studying the behavior of gorillas and elephants before moving into organizational administration. Dr. Burks has worked at a number of world-class institutions, including Zoo Atlanta, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Denver Zoo before joining the Audubon Team. He currently serves on the board of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and has served as the Chair of the Board for the Center for Conservation Peacebuilding, an organization dedicated to solving human-wildlife conflict through solutions that benefit both people and animals.
